Example: She went to the doctor to find out the cause of her recurring stomach ailment.

Trick: AILment – when something AILs you again and again, that small problem or illness is called an ailment.

Synonyms: Range, Gamut, Scope, Span

Antonyms: Limitation, Narrowness, Confinement, Restriction

Example: The festival attracted people from across the social spectrum.

Trick: Imagine a “specs room” full of glasses with different colored lenses – that room shows a whole spectrum of colors and options.

Synonyms: Applaud, Praise, Hail, Commend

Antonyms: Criticize, Blame, Condemn, Disparage

Example: The author was widely acclaimed for her groundbreaking novel.

Trick: ACclaim – imagine the AC in your room finally working perfectly in summer, you loudly praise it and say “AC, I acclaim you!” meaning you highly appreciate it.
