With Supreme Court observing that reservation cannot be claimed by any community as a fundamental right, Tamil Nadu political parties withdrew a batch of petitions objecting to the reservation policy followed in postgraduate medical admissions through NEET. These parties were complaining that neither TN government’s 50% reservation for backward classes or Centre’s 27% OBC reservation were being applied in seats earmarked for all India quota in TN colleges. Few politicians will dare to echo SC’s pithy observation. Consequently, right to equality has weakened over time with community after community demanding and securing reservation.
