The last couple of years have seen an unprecedented push by GoI for economic development of the North-Eastern Region (NER). The eight states that comprise NER are marked by great diversity, constituting nearly 200 indigenous ethnic groups. With 8% of India’s land mass, it has a combined population of 46 million. But despite being endowed with rich natural resources, it remains economically backward because of limited internal resource generation and a low skill base.
