1. Smart Cities Mission Has a Strong Focus on Innovative Digital Technologies & Dovetails with Digital India Vision Areas & Digital Empowerment of Citizens

“Smart Cities Mission is a step in the direction of achieving our vision to improve the ease of living particularly for the poor, women, elderly and differently abled people. All Indians should be able to enjoy a clean and sustainable environment. As a major player in digital revolution and a technology superpower, India must also leverage cutting edge technology to power its infrastructure, offices and homes.

90 cities have been selected so far. The selection of ten more cities will be announced shortly. There are about 3000 projects worth Rs.1,40,000 crores at various stages of implementation. Tenders for projects worth Rs 16,000 crore have been called, and more than 1 lakh crore worth of projects are being readied for issuance of tenders. This remains one of the fastest ever project implementations at this scale and geographic spread in urban sector. This will have a ‘Lighthouse’ effect. Other cities and regions around them will soon start undergoing transformation towards becoming centres of urban excellence.

Digital Technology solutions, such as surveillance systems lead to greatly reduced crime and improved safety of residents particularly women. City wide wi-fi networks have improved communication among citizens as well that with various service providers. E-governance and citizen feedback management has led to improved social cohesion by increase in opportunities for citizen engagement, reduction in social inequities, and reduction in response time for services for business. Integrated traffic management will increase the traffic speeds and reduce traffic congestions and hence cleaner air for people to breathe.

2. Total milk production registers a growth of 4.7% Milk and Egg Production Outlook 2017-18

As regards to seasonal estimation, the total milk production has increased from 51.33 Million Tonnes during 2016-17 (Summer) to 53.77 Million Tonnes during 2017-18 (Summer) registering a growth 4.7%. The same is comparatively higher than the growth rate of summer season 2015-16 to 2016-17 (3.9%). Thus, even during the summer season 2017-18 the growth rate is higher and sustained.

The first five highest milk producing States during Summer Season 2017-18 are Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

As regards to seasonal estimation, the total egg production has increased from 26.03 Billion during 2016-17 (Summer) to 27.95 Billion during 2017-18 (Summer) registering a growth 7.4%. The same is comparatively higher than the growth rate of summer season 2015-16 to 2016-17 (5.5%). Thus, even during the summer season 2017-18 the growth rate is higher and sustained. The production of egg is largely contributed by commercial poultry farms with nearly 80.83% and remaining production is from household/backyard poultry.

The first five highest eggs producing States during Summer Season 2017-18 are Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Haryana.

3. PM Modi to receive Israel PM Netanyahu in Gujarat tomorrow

The city of Ahmedabad will greet Mrs. and Mr. Netanyahu with a reception, as they proceed to Sabarmati Ashram from Ahmedabad Airport. They will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu will inaugurate the iCreate Center at Deo Dholera Village in Ahmedabad. They will visit a Startup Exhibition and interact with innovators and Startup CEOs. The two Prime Ministers will dedicate a mobile water desalination van to Suigam Taluka, of Banaskantha district, through a video link. Both leaders will also address the gathering.

Prime Minister Netanyahu and Prime Minister Modi will also visit the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Vadrad in Banaskantha district. They will be briefed on work plan of the Centre. They will inaugurate the Centre of Excellence for Date Palms at Kukama, Bhuj District, through a video link. The two Prime Ministers will also interact with farmers.

4. Shri M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates in Chennai the celebrations for “1,000 liver transplants in Tamil Nadu”

The Vice President said that Organ Donation is a noble way of living beyond death. We must encourage people on the importance of Organ Donation and make them participate in such righteous cause. It is the best way to live after death, he said.

Voicing concerns over the rise of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), particularly among youngsters, the Vice President said that the present-day lifestyles are hugely contributing to this menace. Avoiding consumption of junk food and alcohol, eating a balanced diet, ending sedentary lifestyles and doing regular exercises or Yoga-Asanas are essential for people, particularly the youth, to remain healthy and not fall prey to various diseases, he said.

The Vice President said that complex procedures like liver transplantation must be in the reach of common man. One of the ways to make it more affordable is to create the necessary expertise and facilities in government hospitals like what Tamil Nadu is doing, he said.
