The company is accused of not passing on about ₹250 crore to consumers after the goods and services tax (GST) change lowered the tax burden on goods. The National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA) will now have to decide on the matter. The whole business of profiteering is pretty unclear. Stocks that have left the company’s factories with packaging that reflects the taxes and prices in force at the time of manufacture are likely to trade at those prices till exhausted. Fresh supplies that bear lower taxes and prices should drive out older stock, or new stock that pretends to be old, higher-priced stock.
