This comes in after the overall GDP growth for the December quarter trending down to 6.6% and the IMF forecasting a lower rate of growth for India, as indeed for the entire world. Also, reports of some possible flaws in the database of companies used for estimating GDP have raised concerns as to an upward bias in GDP estimates. The slowdown in revenues and profits of fastmoving consumer goods companies has added to the worries, reinforced by slowing sales of commercial vehicles and passenger cars. However, pessimism on the Indian economy would be misplaced.
