Is your phone a friend or an enemy? Discuss.

Sentence starters

  • “I spend about … hours on my phone.…”
  • “The good thing about technology is……”
  • “But sometimes it……”

Sample answer (read it aloud, then make it yours)

My phone is both a friend and an enemy. It is convenient: I study on it, I pay bills, I talk to my family in another city. But I am also a little addicted. I check it as soon as I wake up, and I lose an hour every night scrolling. Now I keep it in another room while I study, and I have switched off most notifications. Technology is useful when I control it. It becomes a problem when it controls me.

Follow-up questions to ask your partner

  1. How many hours do you use your phone every day?
  2. Which app do you use most, and why?
  3. Has technology made studying easier or harder?
  4. Could you live one day without your phone?
  5. What is one app that improved your life?
