Jharkhand police have charged the accused in the Tabrez Ansari lynching case with murder in a supplementary chargesheet after shying away from doing so in the first chargesheet. The reasons cited by the police for initially chargesheeting the accused with the lighter charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder are not convincing. It has claimed that the postmortem, medical and forensic opinion that stated the cause of death as cardiac arrest wasn’t clear enough to slap murder charges in the first chargesheet. The second opinion police sought from a medical board comprising five senior doctors, however, authoritatively states that Ansari’s cardiac arrest was indeed a result of the brutal assault.
