The editorial
Source: The Economic Times · 21 Jun 2019The President’s speech to the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha, in joint session with the Rajya Sabha, outlines the new government’s vision and broad roadmap for its term. It holds out the promise of social harmony, a concerted attempt to achieve prosperity, extensive welfare for practically all sections of society, a sustained assault on corruption, better education and healthcare, 50,000 new startups, credit for small enterprises, strengthened infrastructure initiatives and continued focus on internal and external security, fortified with domestic manufacture of weapons. That the controversial plan to abolish Articles 370 and 35A do not find mention in the President’s speech is welcome, but neither do fresh elections to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
