We have crossed the halfway point of the lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24. Following the nationwide spread of the Tablighi Jamaat cluster and increased testing, the number of Covid-19 cases has risen fast. On Saturday there were 586 new cases, the highest single day count thus far. Worst affected Maharashtra recorded the highest single day count of any state so far, at 145. Its capital Mumbai encapsulates the challenges that densely populated parts of India will have to overcome to restore nor malcy. The steps Maharashtra gover nment takes, therefore, will significantly influence the overall success in the fightback.
