But when scientists at the Institute Marques in Spain played different kinds of music to babies in the womb, they found that fetuses prefer classical music, with Bach and Beethoven triggering much happier responses than Queen – or even Adele. Again, maybe she lifts you above this dreary earth but your little unborn angel may have somewhat different needs. If you are lost on those, Girija Devi recommends Malkauns, Shaant, Bageshwari, Yaman and Bhairav as being very good for a child’s growth.
But in the end nothing beats talking to your baby directly. Mums have a head start because their voice is communicated to the fetus both as ambient sound through the abdomen and internally through the vibration of vocal chords. But dads shouldn’t hold back either. And really, dad, Adele isn’t a bad choice for crooning to your baby – Hello it’s me, hello from the other side.
