Ranji Trophy: Prithvi Shaw hits 2nd fastest double-hundred in tournament history
The move from Mumbai to Maharashtra seems to have paid off for Prithvi Shaw, as the batter produced a belligerent double hundred in only his second outing for the team. Playing against Chandigarh in the second-round fixtures of the Ranji Trophy, Shaw recorded the second-fastest double hundred ever in the Elite Group of the tournament.Batting against Chandigarh, Shaw reached his milestone in just 141 balls, surpassing Rahul Singh’s record from the 2023/24 season. Shaw now occupies the second spot on the list, only behind Ravi Shastri, who had scored his double hundred in just 123 balls back in the 1984/85 season.
Shaw moved away from Mumbai Cricket Association after a controversy filled last season where he was constantly criticised for his lack of professionalism. The batter changed his allegiance to Maharashtra and started on a tremendous note, hitting a terrific century in the warm-up game itself.
Shaw's start in the Ranji Trophy itself was however, meek. The opener scored a 4-ball duck in the first innings against Kerala, in a match that was eventually drawn, courtesy of some superior batting from Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The knock on Monday also saw him hit the sixth fastest hundred in Ranji Trophy history - in just 72 balls. The knock is expected to boost the confidence of the batter, who has been out of the Indian team for a very long time.
Prithvi Shaw had a meteoric rise in Indian cricket back in 2018, when he broke through the ranks of age-group cricket. However, his momentum was shortlived as multiple controversies marred the growth of his career.
Shaw was embroidered in the on and off-field controversies, with the most recent one being his scuffle against former teammates in Mumbai. In the Ranji Trophy warm-up game, Shaw was involved in an ugly spat with his former teammate Musheer Khan following his dismissal. Tempers flared between him and Musheer as the former walked back to the pavillion, leading to a heated verbal exchange. The confrontation escalated when Shaw, visibly frustrated, appeared to fling his bat in the direction of his former teammates, prompting the umpire to step in and quickly defuse the situation.
During the WAVES Summit in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined India's developing position in the global creative economic sector. During his opening address, India earned the description of an "orange economy" because cultural and creative sectors drive both financial growth and job creation. Rajnikanth and Mukesh Ambani joined
