The editorial
Source: The Times of India · 31 Oct 2018BJP must refrain from taking the legislative route for India’s and its own sake.
Sections of the Sangh Parivar are now pressuring the government to short circuit the judicial process and establish a Ram temple at the site of the demolished Babri Masjid by bringing in a law to this effect. Such a step would have enormous negative repercussions for India’s polity and the government must resist the pressure. Though VHP is at the forefront of this demand, RSS too has shed any pretensions of glasnost and is backing it. Since grave constitutional issues are involved in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit, any law or ordinance on the matter will surely attract legal challenge on the ground that the case is already in the Supreme Court.
