Pm modi urges students to prioritise discipline self improvement in 'pariksha pe charcha' session
In a free-wheeling interaction with students from across the country, the Prime Minister held his annual 'Pariksha pe Charcha' at Sunder Nursery in Delhi, calling on students to also explore all their avenues and talents. In response to questions posed by participating students, he said that exams should not be treated as the end all as 'gyan' or knowledge is at a separate pedestal from scores earned in examinations.
He also called upon students to focus on bettering oneself everyday and focus on the next ball when faced with failure.
He also called upon parents to desist from social competition vis a vis their children and urged them to support them instead of comparing them with others like 'models'.
Urging parents not to force children to pursue specific careers, the PM reminded that such an approach only builds constant pressure and stress for the child. He also reminded teachers not to focus only on top-performing students while neglecting others.
The PM underlined that students must not be treated as robots and the overall ecosystem at home and at school should focus on their holistic development.
Discover and nurture each student's unique talent, look for positivity, the PM said emphasizing on the need for a 360 degree approach that goes beyond academic books.
The PM reminded that one is fortunate to be living in a technology driven era and asked students to differentiate between using it productively for impact vis a vis spending hours away on non-productive scrolling of 'reels'. He held up the example of researchers and innovators developing new technology for the betterment of society as an example of the former.
The need for open communication, releasing mental 'pressure' and emotional build up through open communication and social interaction was also touched upon at the PM's interaction.
Depression often starts with feeling disconnected from family and gradually withdrawing from social interactions and hence the greater need to express inner dilemmas openly to prevent them from escalating, said the PM recalling traditional family structure and genuine educators that allowed such a space.
The Prime Minister mentioned how a teacher's attention helped him improve his handwriting as a student and said such care and attention can greatly influence a student's well-being and academic performance.
The PM also attempted to nudge students to choose healthier lifestyles, eating habits and ensure adequate rest and sleep for a health mind and body.
