Gujarat govt raises income limit for parents

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has raised the income limit for school admission under the Right to Education (RTE) ACT-2009 to 6 lakh per annum for parents. Previously, the limit was capped at 1.20 lakh and 1.50 lakh for rural and urban areas, respectively.

Under the RTE Act, 2009, 25% seats of non-aided private primary schools are kept reserved for free admission for children from weaker and marginalised groups. The admission process for Grade 1 under the RTE will start from March 16, 2025.

The state government maintained that from now on, all parents with an annual income of 6 lakh or less in both rural and urban areas will be eligible to apply, which will ensure more eligible students benefit from admission in Grade 1 under RTE.

It is important to note that children who turn 6 on June 1, 2025, will be eligible for admission.
