1. Income Tax Department takes various initiatives to bring about efficiency, transparency, and fairness in Tax Administration
Government is committed to widen the tax base by encouraging and incentivising the new tax payers; Number of tax payers increased significantly from 4.72 crore in financial year 2012-13 to 6.26 crore during the Financial Year 2016-17.
Direct Tax Revenue Collections up to 18th September, 2017 in the current Financial Year 2017-18 rose to Rs. 3.7 lakh crore with a growth of 15.7%.
The Finance Minister informed that India has entered into Foreign Collaboration with 148 countries as far as Exchange of Information for tax matters is concerned and with 39 countries for criminal matters.

2. India Hosts Global Wildlife Programme to Address Illegal Wildlife Trade
In an attempt to address illegal wildlife trade across 19 countries of Asia and Africa, India is hosting the Global Wildlife Programme (GWP) jointly with World Bank and United Nations Development Programme.
“Five crore people living around national parks and sanctuaries are working as partners in environment conservation”, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said.
The Minister pointed out that a 15-year National Wildlife Action Plan (2017-31), with a special focus on peoples’ participation will also be launched on October 2.

3. India registers significant decline in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) , Gender gap reducing: Big boost to ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’
India has registered a significant decline in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). According to the just released SRS bulletin, IMR of India has declined by three points (8% decline), from 37 per 1000 live births in 2015 to 34 per 1000 live births in 2016, compared to two points decline last year.
Not only this, India also recorded a major drop in birth cohort, which has for the first time come down to below 25 million. India has registered 90000 fewer infant deaths in 2016 as compared to 2015. The total number of estimated infant deaths have come down from 930000 (9.3 Lakhs) in 2015 to 840000 (8.4 lakhs) in 2016.

4. NHAI’s projects to generate approximately 50 Crore man-days employment over next four years
The ongoing and targeted projects of National Highways Authority of India would generate estimated employment of approximately 50 crores man days over the next four years on a seasonal basis.
The NHAI currently has 282 projects having length of about 20,000 km under implementation across the country out of which 10,000 km of length is targeted to be completed over next one to two years.

5. NITI Aayog invites Indian entrepreneurs to participate in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, 2017
The theme for this year’s Summit - Women First, Prosperity for All - will celebrate entrepreneurship in all its strength, diversity and entirety.
This is the first time the Global Entrepreneurship Summit is being held in South Asia. Hosting GES 2017 in Hyderabad will empower Indian entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas, build partnerships, secure funding, and create innovative products and services that will transform societies for a better future. It will not only bring global best practices to India, but will create an irreplaceable place for India in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem.
