1. Literacy provides the first essential step towards building a participative, vibrant, and a more inclusive democracy: Vice President 

  The Vice President Said that the Literacy Day reminds us of the importance of literacy in the development architecture of all countries and its crucial, central role as a development accelerator. Literacy a  stepping stone for all forms of formal learning as well as lifelong education, literacy enables individuals to access and avail economic, political and social benefits, he added.

  The Vice President suggested ways to achieve universal literacy; firstly to improve the quality of pre-primary and school education; secondly, we must provide opportunities for learning to those who have never been to school or have dropped out of school.

  The Vice President said that Neo-literates, majority of who are women, will be the ambassadors of our programme leading towards making Saakshar Bharat a Saksham Bharat. He further said that we must use technology to make the literacy programmes more effective.

  The Vice President said that literacy learning can be made more meaningful if it is linked to the daily lives of the learners. He further said that community learning centres can become the hubs of literacy learning and community empowerment

  2. MoS DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh to inaugurate two-day “North East Calling” festival tomorrow 

The purpose of the event is to promote the art, culture, heritage, cuisine, handicrafts, business and tourism of North East India.
The event will include Music Festival for bands of North-East, Cultural Night for Dances of North-East, Handloom Demo Show presenting the clothes of North-East, Exhibitions of activities being undertaken in NE, stalls for Sale of products of NERAMAC and NEHHDC, variety of food stalls including sale of delicacies of NE.
The event coincides with the 16th Anniversary of Ministry of DoNER.

(V. IMP) 3. Building a new India: Pledge to Double Farmers Income by 2022 Seven-point Strategy 

The goal is to double the income of farmers by 2022.
Seven-point Strategy
1.      Increase in production
It is important to improve irrigation efficiency to increase production. Therefore, our government has increased the irrigation budget. ‘Per Drop More Crop’ is our motto.  Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana has been launched to mitigate the drought effect, watershed development and water harvesting & management projects have been put on the fast track.

2.      Effective use of input cost
Government has introduced Soil Health Card Scheme to inform farmers about nutrients status of the soils. In addition, the Government has curbed illegal use of urea and ensured adequate supply through Neem Coated Urea scheme.

3.      Reduction of post-harvest losses
One of the biggest problems of the farmers is storage after harvesting as a result they are forced to sell their products at a lower cost. Therefore, the government is encouraging farmers to use warehouses and avoid distressed sales.

4.      Value Addition
The government is also promoting quality through food processing. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana has been started and Rs.6, 000 crore has been allocated for this project. Under this scheme, food-processing capabilities will be developed .

5.      Reforms in Agriculture Marketing
The Central Government is emphasizing on the need of reforms in agriculture marketing. e-NAM was launched with three reforms, online trading , model Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act, and to promote contract farming.

6. Risk, Security and Assistance
The Government has initiated Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to reduce the possible risks. The scheme creates a security shield. The lowest rate has been fixed for Kharif and Rabi crops. Maximum rate is 2% and 1.5% respectively.  The scheme covers standing crops as well as pre-sowing to post-harvesting losses. Not only that, 25% of the claim is settled immediately online.

  III. White Revolution: Indigenous breeds of cows are being conserved under Rashtriya Gokul Mission. The genetic makeup is improving and increasing the production of milk.

4 .Eastern Fleet Ships on Overseas Deployment to East and South-East Asia  In pursuant of the India’s ‘Act East Policy’, two Indian Naval Ships proceeded on deployment to East and South-East Asia this year. INS Satpura and INS Kadmatt departed Visakhapatnam today to visit 12 ports in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Brunei and Russia.

The ships will participate in the International Fleet Review hosted by the Association of South East Asian Countries (ASEAN) at Thailand. At Russia, the ships will participate in the annual India-Russia bilateral exercise INDRA. This year, Ex-INDRA will witness the joint participation of Army, Navy and Air Force of both countries, thus, a major milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries. 

(IMP) 5 . Swachhathon 1.0

  Swachhathon 1.0, the first ever Swachh Bharat Hackathon, was organized by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to crowd source solutions to some of the Sanitation and Hygiene challenges faced in various parts of the country.

a)       Monitoring usage of toilets
b)       Triggering behaviour change
c)       Toilet Technologies in Difficult terrains
d)       Working solutions for maintenance and operations of school toilets.
e)       Technological solutions for safe disposal of menstrual waste
f)        Solution for early decomposition of faecal matter

6. Saakshar Bharat Puraskaar - 2017

India has committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all nations at the United Nations in January 2016. The global agenda envisages a “world with universal literacy” and one of the targets set in the agenda, to be achieved by 2030.

  India has a long way to go as nearly 35 crore youth and adults are outside the literate world. Means suggested are to improve quality of education and promoting e- learning .
  Literacy rate of India has raised from 18% in 1947 has now reached to 81% approximately. Next year government will start ‘School Chalo Abhiyan programme.

7. Imposition of Countervailing Duty on Imports of Stainless Steel Flats CVD on Stainless Steel will strengthen the ongoing efforts of Indian industry for moving towards 100 % quality regime for better safety and health of users. This will provide a level playing field to the industry to grow to its full potential after attaining 2nd largest rank in stainless steel production in world in 2016.” 

8. CGWB enters into MoA with IIS Bangalore for development of ground water flow models and preparation of aquifer management plans for parts of Karnataka  Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), entered into an Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore for ‘Development of ground water flow models and preparation of aquifer management plans for parts of Karnataka’.

9. Hockey Coach Appointed 

The Joint Committee Meeting of SAI and HI held at SAI, here on 7th September 2017 appointed Shri Harendra Singh, Dronacharya Awardee, Hockey Coach as High Performance Specialist Coach for Indian Senior Women Hockey Team. The present Chief Coach of India senior women Hockey Team, Mr. Waltherus Norbertus Maria Marijne will take over as Chief Coach of Indian Senior Men Hockey Team on his return from the on-going Europe tour.
