What was of interest in the motion of no confidence were two things: which parties voted on which lines and who said what in the House. The Shiv Sena, a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, stayed away from the House, sparing itself the need to vote in favour of a government it has been criticising all along. Orissa’s BJD walked out, again refraining from taking a firm stand on where it stands in the electoral battle scheduled for next summer. Since there were no abstentions in the actual voting, the AIADMK has voted along with the ruling alliance.
