1. Every year, World Polio Day is celebrated on October 24. The day is celebrated to highlight the global efforts towards polio-free world. Also, the day encourages the use of polio vaccines.

2. The United Nations recently announced that around 50 countries have ratified the UN Treaty to ban Nuclear Weapons. This has triggered the treaty into force. The treaty was opposed by the United States and other nuclear powers.

3. Government eMarketplace (GeM) has been merged with the Central Public Procurement Portal (CPPP) for the creation of a Unified Procurement System. The integrated system will combine the whole public buying of goods and services onto one platform.

4. The Vigilance Awareness Week is to be held between October 27, 2020 and November 2, 2020. The week is celebrated to affirm the commitment towards promotion of probity and integrity in public life through citizen participation. This year, the Vigilance Awareness Week is to be held under the theme

Theme: Satarak Bharat, Samridh Bharat.
It means Viglant India, Prosperous India.
5. The Government of Bangladesh recently launched No Mask No Service Policy. Under the new policy, no services will be offered to the people who are not wearing masks.

6. On 26 October, 2020, the Government of India announced that Uttar Pradesh secured the top rank PM SVANidhi Scheme. The state has approved the highest number of loans so far.

7. The SAI stands for Sports Authority of India. It has consented a national coaching camp for table tennis. It will be held from 28 October – 8 December 2020.

8. The United States approved the potential sale of three weapon systems to Taiwan, as well as missiles and artillery. The three weapon systems could have a total cost of USD 1.8 billion.

The United States also approved 11 truck-based rocket launchers created by Lockheed Martin Corp called a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System for an approximately cost of USD 436.1m.

9. The Ministry of Defence recently approved the land transfer rules. Under the new rules the armed forces are allowed to receive infrastructure equivalent in value to the land under their control. The land is to be used for public utilities. This will help reduce the defence forces’ expenditure.

10. UN’s Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) comes into effect after ratification by 50 countries.
