The move would boost credit offtake in the backdrop of a huge fall in corporate sector credit growth, a severe cash crunch at nonbanking financial companies (NBFCs) and banks chary of project lending. But AIFL cannot be a substitute for an active and vibrant corporate bond market to better allocate resources for long-gestation projects.
