Ongoing political churn in UP and Bihar may not turn out well for BJP.

Congress’s recent assembly poll victories in the Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh appear to have unleashed a political churn in north India. For one, Congress now fancies itself as the anchor of the opposition mahagathbandhan to take on BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Second, BJP’s defeats have also strengthened belief among opposition parties that the saffron wave which gripped north India in 2014 is now over. It’s possible that BJP’s formidable electoral machinery can be defeated through smart alliance building and seat sharing adjustments. And the two crucial states that could turn the tide in opposition’s favour are Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
