As the United Kingdom and European Union prepare for Brexit, Prime Minister Theresa May has said that the new system will ensure that migrants from EU are no longer able to jump the queue ahead of those from countries like India. She touted a shift to a skills-based immigration system where the origin of the migrant will matter less than the expertise he would bring to UK. Under current EU rules, migrant workers from the bloc can freely find work in UK, while those from India have to undergo strict visa requirements. May’s comments are an indicator of the changing lay of the land, which India needs to be aware of.
