Source: The Times of India · 9 Jul 2018Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan’s former prime minister, and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were on Friday sentenced to tough jail terms of ten and seven years respectively, on nebulous evidence in a case of acquiring properties in London. Their sentencing is suspiciously timed, coming just before a crucial general election two weeks from now, and soon after Sharif let the cat out of the bag by broaching how Pakistan had isolated itself by breeding terrorists for political ends. Such candour is a no-no in Pakistan and Sharif appears to have been made to pay by the establishment for crossing a red line.
