Nearly two months after adopting the lockdown approach to containment, India’s count of detected Covid-19 cases has crossed one lakh. Now lockdown is no more an option with the economy in tailspin. But having prevented an unmanageable spurt of cases, the days ahead must be utilised in perfecting the lockdown exit strategy. India can take heart that the fatality rate here is estimated at 3.08% against 6.57% internationally. The fatality rate may be even lower if we are testing more people to detect the disease, especially asymptomatic ones.
