The sooner the supply shortage is overcome, the better for the Indian economy. This should be the primary concern in reallocating the foreign flying rights assigned to Jet. The Comptroller and Auditor General and even parliamentary committees have a habit of viewing bilateral flying rights as an instrumentality for shoring up the profitability of state-owned Air India. This approach is wholly misguided. Globalising India needs air travel to be as cheap, plentiful and convenient as possible.
