What he did say is unexceptionable: Covid-19 is a severe test of the financial system’s and the economy’s resilience, the non-performing asset burden would grow through the crisis and banks would have to reinforce their capital buffers, possibly raise fresh equity as a result. He also said there was a need for a resolution corporation for financial firms that fail, one with statutory backing. All this is fine.
