The editorial

The stimulus package announced by the government lacks ambition and comes in late, but is better than nothing. If things go according to plan, the stimulus would amount to Rs 1lakh crore, about half a percentage point of GDP, and direct expenditure of the central government would be limited to half of that. This is a bit like a famished man refusing to eat the loaf of bread he has in hand on the ground that he might need it later. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff. The saving grace is that the package that has been announced now does not preclude another, bolder package later.
