Partial resumption of activity next week a welcome step towards lockdown exit.

The government yesterday announced a blueprint for a staggered exit. Beginning next week, government will allow partial resumption of economic activities. The resumption will not be uniform as containment zones will remain under a complete lockdown. The blueprint provides a template akin to a floor level. States cannot loosen more than what’s provided in the blueprint but have the option to be tighter. The development is welcome as India’s lockdown measures, possibly the tightest among major economies, are extracting an enormous economic cost.
