Two reports — the UN’s Global Biodiversity Outlook 5 and the WWF’s Living Planet Report 2020 — in a week provide a clear picture of the damage wrought by overconsumption, population growth and intensive agriculture, and what it means for human well-being. Unchecked, it would undermine the systems that sustain life, and for countries such as India, derail efforts to improve living standards.
