Jharkhand voter has sent a terse message to political parties: it’s the economy, stupid At the political level it has been a victory of alliance politics, with BJP paying the price for going solo and the JMM-Congress coalition reaping rich returns. After Maharashtra and Haryana, the Jharkhand result also suggests that ‘national’ issues like Article 370 nullification, Ram Mandir construction and CAA-NRC are not bearing for BJP fruit at the state level. Local issues dominate here, and it so happens that many of the hardships being experienced in Jharkhand only echo what’s happening in other states – there is real economic distress.
