The editorial
Source: The Economic Times · 8 Oct 2019A phantom limb is the sensation experienced by many people who have had the misfortune to have an arm or a leg amputated, as if their limb were still painfully present. Rahul Gandhi right now serves as the Congress party’s phantom limb. He excised himself as the party’s president. But the party still treats him as a leader. When people whom Rahul Gandhi had appointed to senior positions within the party suddenly find themselves cast aside, such as Ashok Tanwar in Haryana, Sanjay Nirupam in Mumbai and Navjot Singh Sidhu in Punjab, they directly or indirectly seek to register their complaint with their leader, who, unfortunately, is no longer the leader of the party and, as if to underline that disinvestment, has gone off to distant shores even as the party goes into electoral battle in two states, against heavy odds.
