Central government has clarified that India has a surplus production of oxygen. The challenge then is to overcome the logistical hurdles and channelise this national surplus to meet excess demand in hospitals, many of them away from major urban centres and thus possibly under the official radar. A governmental review has flagged inventory management flaws at the hospital level as a reason for shortages. It has also alleged wastage by hospitals.
