After the tantalising 2017 assembly election in which no party could achieve a simple majority, Goa is poised for another tight contest. While parties like BJP, Congress, MGP, GFP and AAP fought separately then, the political contestation has only intensified in India’s smallest state.

BJP has to contend with anti-incumbency after 10 years at the helm. Congress has been weakened by mass defections to BJP, and lately to TMC. Both MGP and GFP have also shrunk following leaders deserting them for BJP. With TMC and AAP also making forceful pitches, the governing and opposition votes appear likely to be pulled in different directions.
