The latest round of the annual UN climate talks served more to add to climate change, with the tonnes of aviation fuel burnt to get delegates from around the world to Madrid and back, than to crystallise a plan to reduce it. Countries failed to commit themselves to domestic climate action in line with the demands of science and the public, in particular, the youth. When Spain stepped up to offer to host the meet after Chile announced in late October that it could not, given internal political unrest, it held out hopes for global collaboration and partnership. Madrid did not quite kill hope but has put it on a thin diet of continued talk.
