The editorial
Source: The Times of India · 1 Oct 2020Even as the country was asking questions about how the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old from Hathras had been handled, what kind of police and medical support she had been provided, what kind of treatment was meted out and continues to be meted out to her family, news of yet another young Dalit woman having been allegedly raped and murdered broke from Balrampur.
As in the Hathras case, what the family says is at odds with what the police claims. Local reports say the victim’s legs and waist were broken, but Balrampur police has tweeted that this is not confirmed by the post-mortem. Just as in the Hathras case where the body was cremated in the earliest hours of the day, in darkness and without the family’s consent, in Balrampur too the body was cremated with suspicious speed, once again in the dark hours of the day.
