The editorial

It is welcome that suspense over government formation in Maharashtra is over and the state would soon have a functional government. We hope it would be stable and work coherently, despite the ideological differences among the parties forming it. It is to be appreciated that Devendra Fadnavis resigned as chief minister when it became clear that Ajit Pawar, his putative ally, was not in a position to deliver the legislative support he had promised to bring with him when he had been sworn in as deputy chief minister. It is welcome that no attempt was made to break other parties and accumulate majority support by offering inducements to MLAs of other parties. It is a remarkable development in Indian politics that elected legislative parties have remained intact in a situation of no single party having a majority of its own.
