Find out what happens to the face when you dip it in ice-cold water daily for 15 days
Many people swear by dipping their face in ice-cold water, touted to be a game-changer in skincare. Now, a makeover content creator, Guneet Kaur Dhingra, has shared her experiences after taking a 15-day ice-cold water dip test. “Embarking on a 15-day journey of dipping my face in ice-cold water has been a revelation for my skincare routine. After being hesitant at first, I was astounded by the remarkable outcomes and rejuvenating effects it had on my skin,” Dhingra shared on Instagram.According to Dhingra,
*From the first dip, she felt an invigorating rush that awakened her senses and tightened her pores. The icy plunge not only revitalised her complexion but also seemed to erase signs of fatigue and stress, leaving her skin feeling refreshed and energised.
*As the days progressed, she noticed a significant reduction in puffiness and inflammation, particularly around her eyes. The cold water therapy worked wonders in diminishing the appearance of dark circles and giving her under-eye area a brighter and more youthful glow.
*What truly amazed her was the transformative impact on her skin’s texture and tone. “The consistent application of cold water helped to tighten and tone my facial muscles, resulting in a more lifted and sculpted appearance,” said Dhingra.
*Moreover, dipping her face in ice-cold water became a meditative practice — a moment of self-care and rejuvenation amidst the chaos of daily life. “It provided me with a sense of clarity and inner peace while simultaneously invigorating my skin from within,” said Dhingra.

Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist, and dermatosurgeon at The Esthetic Clinics, Mumbai, agreed and said this skincare trend has various benefits. “It is believed to reduce the puffiness of your face while temporarily tightening the skin. There is a range of skincare benefits of using ice-cold water on the face,” said Dr Kapoor.
According to Dr Kapoor, the sudden shock of cold water can improve the blood flow in the skin while making it glow when done for a fortnight. “It can benefit those with skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea,” said Dr Kapoor.
While adding new rituals to your skincare routine can be a “smart choice,” Dr Kapoor cautioned that regularly dipping your face in ice water for more than 5 minutes is not advisable. “Prolonged exposure to cold water can easily strip away your skin’s natural oil, making it dry and rough. People with sensitive and oily-prone skin should be careful. It can even lead to serious irritation due to the sudden cold exposure. This can negatively exacerbate the symptoms of sinus or respiratory conditions like asthma in some,” cautioned Dr Kapoor.
One should follow safety measures and necessary precautions and avoid the practice for over a minute at a stretch. “Remember, moderation is a key. Do not go overboard when it comes to cold water dip. Always check how you feel before continuing. Avoid going for a hot water shower or face wash right after. Naturally, allow your skin to warm up gradually after being exposed to ice-cold water,” said Dr Kapoor.
Pay attention to your body in case you experience any side effects or allergic reactions, such as redness, burning sensation, or skin irritation.
