TY vs -TEEN in NumbersIt is fairly common to mishear numbers over the telephone, even if English is your mother tongue. Sixty sounds a lot like sixteen, and so on.
I have a few tips to help you differentiate! The main focus is stress.
/ˌfɔːˈtiːn/ - fourteen
/ˈfɔːti/ - forty
You can see that the stress in fourteen is on the second syllable, but in forty the stress is in the first syllable. This rule isn't always followed, but it's a good thing to focus on if you fear you are going to be misunderstood!

/ˈfɪfti/ - fifty
/ˌsɪksˈtiːn/ - sixteen
/ˈsɪksti/ - sixty
/ˌsevnˈtiːn/ - seventeen
