Pm modi inaugurates rj sankara eye hospital in varanasi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Sunday to inaugurate the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital.

Operated by Kanchi Math, the hospital will provide comprehensive consultations and treatments for various eye conditions, benefiting residents from 20 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as those living in the border areas of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, according to representatives from Kanchi Math.

This facility marks the 14th hospital established by Kanchi Math in the country, with a goal of conducting 30,000 free eye surgeries each year, as mentioned by the sources.

Prior to the inauguration, PM Modi, who was on a day-long visit to Varanasi, met with the Shankaracharya of Kanchi Math and attended an exhibition organised in the city.

He was received at Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport by Governor Anandiben Patel, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, and other dignitaries.

As part of his vision to enhance world-class sports infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopments of the Varanasi Sports Complex, a project worth over Rs 210 crore, funded under the 'Khelo India' scheme and the Smart City Mission.

This initiative aims to establish a state-of-the-art facility that includes a National Centre of Excellence, players' hostels, a sports science center, practice fields for various sports, indoor shooting ranges, and combat sports arenas, among other amenities.

Moreover, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for several new civil enclaves, including Agra Airport, with an investment exceeding Rs 570 crore; Darbhanga Airport, costing approximately Rs 910 crore; and Bagdogra Airport, which is expected to be developed at a cost of around Rs 1,550 crore.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate new terminal buildings at Rewa Airport, Maa Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur, and Sarsawa Airport, which together are valued at over Rs 220 crore. These projects will significantly enhance the passenger handling capacity of these airports to more than 23 million annually, according to the official release.

The designs of these airports are inspired by the region's rich heritage, reflecting local architectural elements.
