1. World’s largest ‘solar tree’ installed in West Bengal The CSIR-CMERI claimed to have developed the world’s largest ‘solar tree’. It is installed at its residential complex in Durgapur, West Bengal. This model can be customised to be used for agricultural purposes.2. On September 1, 2020, Australia, India and Japan held a ministerial video conference. The meeting reaffirmed free, inclusive, transparent, non-discriminatory and stable trade to keep their markets open. India was represented by the Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal.
3. On August 31, 2020, the Japanese Government announced that it will provide loan assistance of Rs 3,500 crores to India as a response to COVID-19 crisis. This will also include implementation of health and medical policy. The loan is being received by India as an emergency fund.
4. On September 1, 2020, the Supreme Court pronounced its judgement on the AGR dues issues. The judgement was announced by a three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra through video conferencing. The court said that the telecom companies shall pay their AGR dues with in a time frame of 10 years to the central government.
5. FSDC subcommittee meeting held to discuss inter-regulatory coordination Sub-Committee of Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) discussed issues related to inter-Regulatory coordination amid the coronavirus crisis. Inter-regulatory coordination helps in addressing regulatory gaps and overlaps in financial sector. The meeting was chaired by RBI governor Shaktikanta Das.
6. Amidst border tensions between India and China, China has reportedly built a missile launch site in Kailash-Mansarovar. The Kailash-Mansarovar is revered by four religions and is linked to high spiritual scriptures in India. The Hindus in India call the Mountain as the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati.
7. The World Health Organization recently reported that at least half of 25 kinds of health services experienced disruptions due to COVID-19. The findings were based on the survey conducted by the international organization in its five of six regions regions. The survey is called the “Global Pulse Survey”.
8. The scientists from the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology operating under the Department of Science and Technology carried out a study covering 84 square kilometres in the Lesser Himalayas. According to the study, 15% of the region is highly susceptible to landslides.
9. On August 31, 2020, the Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth Rs 2,580 crores to boost Make in India. The contracts were signed for supply of six Pinaka Regiments to the Indian Army. The contracts were signed with Tata Power Company, Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Larsen and Toubro.
10. The CSIR-CMERI operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology has developed world largest solar tree. The tree has an annual capacity of generating 12,000 to 14,000 units of Clean and Green power.
