1. On August 14, 2020, the Defence Minister Raj Nath Singh launched “SRIJAN”, an online portal to promote indigenization of Defence production. The portal is to display those items that are currently being imported by Indian Defence Industry.

2. On August 14, 2020, the United Nations defeated the US demand of extending arms embargo on Iran indefinitely. Embargo is an official ban on trade and other commercial activity on a country.

3. Pune-based Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) developed a biodegradable face mask named “Pavitrapati” which acts a virus neutraliser and an anti-microbial body suit named “Aushada tara”.

7. On august 13, 2020, Israel successfully tested the advanced missile defence system Arrow-2. The missile was developed to defend against the short- and mid- range rockets that are fired from Lebanon and Gaza and also long-range missiles fired from Iran.

8. On August 12, 2020, India extended 1 million USD to Antigua and Barbuda to combat COVID-19 outbreak. This is aimed at improving health infrastructure in the country.

9. An Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) for the Indian Coast Guard named ‘Sarthak’ on August 13, 2020. OPV Sarthak is the fourth in the series of five OPVs. It has been designed and built indigenously by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).

10. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on August 13, 2020 launched the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO). The NIIO puts in place dedicated structures for the end users to interact with academia and industry towards fostering innovation and indigenisation for self-reliance in defence production.
