1. In the midst of a global pandemic, the Elections Department of Singapore had announced on 23rd June 2020 that the 2020 General Election will be held on the 10th of July 2020. This announcement came after President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob had dissolved the ongoing 13th Parliament of Singapore earlier on the same day.2. With the rise in limitations for importing equipment, the Mechanization and Technology Division of the Department of Agricultural Co-operation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW) led the initiative for developing indigenous vehicle mounted ULV (Ultra Low Volume) Sprayer for Locust Control. The indigenously developed prototype had completed the trials successfully. Trials were conducted at Ajmer and Bikaner districts of Rajasthan.
3. The External Affairs Ministry of India has decided to reduce the staff strength of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad by 50% and has also directed the Pakistan Government to implement the same by reducing 50% of its staff from its Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
4. The Foreign Ministerial level meeting of the Russia-India-China (RIC) was conducted on 23rd June 2020. The trilateral virtual meeting was hosted by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The RIC meeting was to commemorate the 75th foundation anniversary of the United Nations following the conclusion of the Second World War.
5. Ramesh Pokhriyal (Union Human Resource Development Minister) launched YUKTI 2.0. The YUKTI 2.0 web portal initiative is a logical extension of the earlier version of ‘YUKTI (launched on 11th April 2020)’ and is in line with the mission of making AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
6. The people’s Republic of China will join the multilateral Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), this was decided during a three-day meeting from 18th June to 20th June of the top lawmaking committee in China- Legislative Affairs Committee. China was one of the 23 countries back in 2013 when it abstained from the vote to adopt the treaty at the United Nations.
7. Since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in March 2020, Serbia on 21st June 2020 became the first country to conduct National Elections in Europe. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) coalition, under the leadership of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic registered one of the largest parliamentary majorities in Europe by winning 191 of the total 250 seats in the Parliament.
8. In order to help the Building & Construction workers to overcome the financial impacts of COVID-19 lockdown, on 24th March 2020, the Chief Minister of all States and Union Territories were advised by the Union Minister of Labour and Employment to create a framework with bank account details of building & construction workers of their respective state so that they can be provided with financial support through direct benefit transfer (DBT)mode.
9. To provide pure and nutritious food to the economically weaker sections of the society, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot on 22nd June 2020 announced ‘Indira Rasoi Yojna (Indira Kitchen Scheme).
10. US suspends issuing of H-1B visas & other foreign work visas for the rest of 2020.
