1. The Government controlled Canteen Stores Department that operates canteens of defence forces are to ban the imported items. This is applicable to all the Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Liquor, consumer durables and footwear.

2. The Sri Lankan Parliament recently passed the 20th Amendment of Sri Lankan constitution. The 20th amendment of the Sri Lankan Constitution has expanded the powers of the President and also have increased the immunity of the President.

3. Kati Bihu is celebrated in Assam and is one of the three Bihu festivals. The Kati Bihu is also called as Kangali Bihu, the festival of the poor (the word “Kongal” means “poor”). It is celebrated in mid-October when the crops are at growing stage and the granaries of the farmers are empty.

4. On October 23, 2020, an Indian Army war memorial called the Joginder War Memorial was inaugurated at Bum La, Arunachal Pradesh. It was inaugurated by the Joginder Singh’s daughter.

5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to launch Kisan Suryoday Yojana in Gujarat. The scheme aims to provide day time power supply for irrigation.

6. On October 24, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three projects in Gujarat. The projects are to be virtually inaugurated by the PM from New Delhi.

Kisan Sarvoday Yojana 7. On October 23, 2020, Sudan became the third country to join UAE and Bahrain in recognizing Israel. The United States recently brokered pacts between Israel and UAE and Bahrain. Under the agreement, UAE and Bahrain agreed to recognise Israel as an independent state.

8. Israel is to establish a “Water Attache” in India. It is to operate from January 2021 under the Israel Embassy in India. The Water Attache division will share Israel’s best practices, technologies and water management in agriculture sectors.

9. Also, Israel is to soon appoint an honorary Consul to the North-East. Its objective is to increase its presence and collaboration in the north-east region.
