Stylish footballer Messi has shifted base to Paris, leaving his fans at Barca heartbroken.

Lionel Messi is now a Paris Saint-Germain player. The Argentine legend, considered one of the best footballers of all times, joined the French club on a free transfer which marks the end to his glorious 21-year stay with FC Barcelona. To date, Leo has played all his professional football with the Catalan club which he joined as a 14-year-old in 2000 but, after a two-decade stay at Camp Nou, the Argentine is in Paris. Though he wanted to stay in Barcelona and had agreed to a five-year deal with 50 per cent pay cut, the club was unable to register him due to financial constraints. Unfortunately, he had to bid adieu to the club that is popular across the globe because Leo plays there. His exit from Barca sent shockwaves around the world as Messi, now 34, is one of the best players and in great form as he displayed in the Copa America where he was the leading scorer as well as the top assist provider, besides being the tournament’s best player alongside Neymar. The Brazilian, who will play alongside Leo in France, was one of the major reasons why Messi moved to Paris. He convinced Leo to make the switch; the presence of other Argentine nationals in Paris also helped the cause.

Messi’s departure from Spain will hurt Barca fans a lot as they never expected anything like this; in fact, none of us did. But they can’t blame him as Messi didn’t want to leave; when there was no choice left, he had to go with the best option available. Leo’s move to Paris makes a lot of sense from his perspective as Messi will have more realistic chances to win silverware in the French capital and also at the Champions League, which he last won in 2015 and has continuously expressed his desire to win more of. Also, PSG, with their vast reserves of Qatari money, has a team that can help Messi achieve new heights in the shadow end of his career, besides offering him unrivalled wages. Messi wants to play at the highest level as long as possible and is also aiming for World Cup glory with Argentina, which will get a big boost with this move as now he can focus more on himself rather than dragging a side that would otherwise have struggled for relevance.
