Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone’s nutritionist recommends this remedy to ‘naturally produce collagen’ in the body
Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone’s nutritionist, Shweta Shah, recommended having one teaspoon of ghee in one glass of warm water every morning for two months or 8 to 9 weeks instead of resorting to collagen supplements for glowing skin. “You will see that you wouldn’t need any collagen supplements. If you try it, you will notice the difference in the 8th to 9th week. You will not see any difference in just 3-4 weeks because the body is working that way,” Shah said on The Mumta podcast. She further suggested having soups like pumpkin and carrot soup, which has beta carotene, for good skin. “Then results differ from body to body depending on its nature or constitution,” Shah added.

Ghee, a form of clarified butter, has long been treasured in traditional Indian diets. “Ghee enhances absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like D, A, E, and K. These vitamins maintain bone health, bolster the immune system, and regulate hormonal balance. Ghee’s natural fat content acts as a carrier, ensuring effective vitamin utilisation,” said Bhakti Kapoor, nutritionist, wellness consultant and founder – Healthy High, Mumbai.
Vitamins K and A are essential for skin health and are found in ghee. “Vitamin K ensures the hassle-free production of collagen – a protein that keeps the skin intact by avoiding sagging. In short, including ghee in your nutrition plan helps maintain good skin provided other lifestyle measures are in place,” said Jinal Patel, dietitian, Zynova Shalby Hospital, Mumbai.
In clinical research, however, “minimal direct evidence” proves that ghee has measurable effects when consumed on an empty stomach, stressed Dr Birali Swetha, chief dietician, Gleneagles Aware Hospital, LB Nagar, Hyderabad.
Experts urge that moderation is key. “Including ghee as part of a balanced diet, alongside exercise and healthy lifestyle choices, ensures you harness its benefits fully,” said Dr Kapoor.
Individuals considering this should do so in moderation and consult a doctor, given their health and skincare goals.
