Diljit dosanjh makes much awaited debut at met gala 2025 represents his culture in a regal ‘maharaja look’
Diljit Dosanjh just debuted at the Met Gala—and it is one for the books. The singer, who had earlier detailed the event invite on his Instagram, opted for a look that represented his culture in all its glory on the global platform.Seen in a ‘Maharaja look’ created by ace fashion designer Prabal Gurung, Diljit was seen wearing an off-white achkan and pajama, along with a turban and a floor-length cape that featured the map of Punjab, multiple significant motifs, and the mool mantra written in Gurmukhi at the back.
The Mool Mantra, central to Sikh philosophy, affirms the Punjabi identity and by carrying this on his back — quite literally — Diljit wasn’t just making a fashion statement. For a diaspora artist whose global rise hasn’t diluted his cultural core, this was the perfect way to narrate that story.
Styled by Abhilasha Devnani, the Punjabi pop icon’s look was accessorised with multiple neckpieces, matching headpieces that adorned his turban, and he carried a talwar. Fashion page Diet Sabya shared a closer look of his outfit. See below:
Diljit Dosanjh’s showstopping look jolted the Internet out of deep slumber, which many netizens declaring him (and his look) a clear ‘winner’ for the night. ‘Punjabi ‘Khaa’ Gaye oyeeeee 🔥,’ commented one user, while another wrote: ‘I can now sleep peacefully.’ Some other comments read, ‘Absolutely ATE 👏 best representation for punjabis. Not only Punjabi industry but also Bollywood! There is NO ONE better at Met Gala this year 🔥🔥,’ ‘Finally we got a winner 🥇 💯’
‘The embroidery, made with a 100,000 pearls is a labour of love by @prabalgurung. I’m so proud to wear you for my first Met,’ she wrote on Instagram, adding that a girl can never have too many pearls… ‘and the right accessories to complement the look which, in our case, translated to the bow of pearls on my hair.’
Other Indian celebrities attending the coveted event this year include Kiara Advani, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Mona Patel, Isha Ambani, and also designers Sanyasachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra.
