According to the 6,000-page charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police on Tuesday, this led to a fight between the couple and Poonawalla killed her in a 'fit of rage.'
New Delhi: Aftab Poonawalla killed his girlfriend Shraddha Walkar because he was angry over her meeting a man she connected with on a dating platform.
According to the 6,000 page charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police Tuesday, this is what led to a fight between the couple and Poonawala killed her in a ‘fit of rage.’
Sources in the Delhi Police told The Print that Shraddha had gone to meet the friend whom she had matched with on a dating platform in Gurgaon. ‘The fight went on for around 30 minutes as Aftab was angry that she had met that other guy,’ the source said.
According to sources in the Delhi Police, Shraddha had gone to meet another 27 year old man, the friend she matched on the dating platform that day and when she returned the couple started fighting.
‘When she came back, a fight broke out between them and Aftab killed her around sunset,’ the source said.
‘Aftab didn't like that she had gone to meet a friend. A fight broke out between them over the same,’ Joint Commissioner of Police (South) Meenu Chowdhary said, addressing a press conference on Tuesday.
The over 6,000-page charge sheet filed on Tuesday has the testimonies of over 150 witnesses in the case, Chowdhary added.
Sources in the Delhi Police told The Print that a total of 16 (approx.) body parts have matched the DNA that was collected from Shraddha's father. ‘Some other pieces were also collected, however due to their condition the DNA couldn't be extracted. All the body remains were collected upon the instance of the accused,’ another source said.
Sources said that the 16 body remains include bones, jaw, pelvis and Shraddha's hair.
Police have said that multiple weapons were used to chop off Shraddha's body which were recovered from the crime scene, however it hasn't been forensically established that these were used to dismember the body. ‘He revealed during interrogation that he used multiple weapons to chop the body. Some scissors, knives and a hammer have been found. The chopper and the saw however haven't been found,’ the source said.
Poonawalla allegedly strangled Shraddha, his live-in partner, to death on 18 May and chopped her body into some 15-20 pieces before disposing of the remains in the Mehrauli forest area.
Chowdhary said that the charge sheet has been filed under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the police, multiple teams were formed, including a Special Investigation Team, to link evidence with circumstances, and the teams visited multiple locations, including Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
‘Police teams were formed to search various locations in Gurgaon and even in
Maharashtra to look for her remains,’ the Joint Commissioner said.
The police said that several crime experts were involved in the case, and the investigation involved high-level technical and scientific evidence collection methods.
DNA tests, advanced DNA mitochondrial profiling tests, CCTV trail analysis, voice analysis, polygraph test, and face recognition system results are part of the charge sheet. Additionally, mobile, laptop, social media services, call record details, and GPS locations are also part of the charge sheet.
Chowdhary also said that the police have recorded statements of Shraddha's friends and former boss, with whom screenshots of her conversation purportedly mentioning about beatings and injuries had gone viral. Sources told The Print that Shraddha's ring was recovered from Aftab's female friend whom he had met on the dating platform and her statement is also a part of the charge sheet.
